Secular Spiritual Accompaniment

Secular Spiritual Accompaniment—sometimes called spiritual coaching—offers a supportive, non-judgmental space for exploring your inner life, values, and aspirations without the confines of religious doctrine. It is designed for anyone seeking clarity, grounding, or healing as they navigate questions of meaning, purpose, and personal growth.
This approach helps you draw on the strengths within yourself, as well as the resources found in connection, community, and compassionate understanding. Together, we explore what makes your life feel meaningful, aligned, and authentically your own.

What You Can Expect
A Safe, Non-Dogmatic Space
Your journey sets the direction. I offer companionship, thoughtful questions, and steady support—never answers imposed from a particular worldview. Helpful insights from psychology, philosophy, mindfulness, and even religious traditions may be used, but only if I sense that they genuinely serve your needs and experience.

Support for Healing and Growth
Many people seek spiritual accompaniment when they are:
-
navigating major life transitions
-
healing from harmful or toxic spiritual experiences
-
rebuilding confidence and inner trust
-
clarifying life purpose or values
-
seeking emotional steadiness and self-understanding
This accompaniment can foster inner peace, clearer decision-making, a more grounded sense of self, and a more authentic contribution to others.

Mindfulness and Inner Awareness
A key dimension of the work is cultivating non-judgmental awareness of thoughts, emotions, and patterns. This helps counter self-doubt, negativity, and old habits that no longer serve you, opening the way to growth, balance, and greater self-compassion.
Practical Wisdom and Real-World Grounding
While deeply reflective, this process is also pragmatic. We may look at how to assess major decisions realistically, how to recognise nurturing vs. toxic social influences, and how to cultivate qualities—such as compassion, love, and courage—that enrich life even when they cannot be easily measured.

My Approach
Although the focus is on your individuality and autonomy, Secular Spiritual Accompaniment also recognises the importance of community and healthy relationships. Together, we explore what supports your well-being and what holds you back.
I prefer to think of those I work with as spiritual friends, not clients. Because this work is personal and in-depth, I limit the number of people I accompany and take on only those whom I feel I can support most effectively.

About Dennis Oliver
I draw on decades of experience helping others clarify how they want to contribute to their own flourishing, the well-being of others, and the health of our planet. My role is not to guide you toward a fixed destination, but to walk alongside you as you strengthen your own clarity, resilience, and sense of purpose.
If you feel this approach might benefit you, I welcome you to be in touch.
The way forward
Contact Dennis through our contact form. Explain why you sense that Spiritual Accompaniment would be beneficial. Dr. Oliver aims to reply within 48 hours. If he senses he can be of help, he will arrange a mutually convenient free half-hour consultation about the possibilities of a short on-line series of 50 minute meetings online.
The cost
A realistic cost/benefit analysis will see the financial cost as secondary to the personal energies required for true self-improvement. New habits and practices, no matter how beneficial, are require a great real effort implement. Improved assumptions and an increased openness are often resisted before they are embraced! We need to count these costs before we begin major self-improvements. Dennis Oliver has a limited amount of time to offer Spiritual Accompaniment, and choses whom to help on the basis of (1) whether he thinks he can contribute to your development and (2) whether he's convinced that you are committed to the required positive changes.

The process begins with a free half-hour discussion - sharing your concerns and answering your questions. This can be initiated through the contact form. If both you and Dr. Oliver agree, a series of conversations will be arranged.
There is a financial need to keep this service going. And without any payment, there's a real danger that the process will be undervalued and abandoned. Part of your commitment to taking this service seriously is monetary. We offer this service on a donation basis. Contribute to each session what you think Spiritual Accompaniment is worth and what you think you can afford.
